BANGKOK, Thailand – The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) and the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) are advising everyone on how to stay safe amid heavy rainfall. They urge the public to closely monitor weather forecasts and prepare for potential emergencies.
For heavy rain and floods, the agencies recommend avoiding unnecessary travel. Residents in flood-prone areas should move their belongings and electrical appliances to higher ground. An emergency kit with important documents and personal medications should also be prepared in case an evacuation is necessary.
Regarding electrical safety, citizens are warned to never plug in or operate appliances with wet hands. If floodwaters enter the home, all electrical devices in the affected area should be unplugged, and the main circuit breaker should be switched off. The public should also avoid walking near utility poles in flooded areas.
For electrical emergencies in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan, the public can contact the MEA through its 24-hour hotline at 1130 or via the MEA Smart Life Application.
For other emergencies, the DDPM can be reached 24/7 via its safety hotline at 1784 or its official Line account, @1784DDPM. (NNT)
