The conch shell trumpet, a ceremonial instrument adopted from India, will sound alongside traditional music during the Royal Barge Procession honoring His Majesty the King.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The conch shell trumpet is a wind instrument made from a conch shell, which is polished smooth and pierced at the base to create a hole for blowing. Thailand adopted this tradition from India. Blowing the conch shell is considered sacred and is reserved for ceremonies of the highest honor. Since ancient times, it has been sounded alongside trumpets.

Since ancient times, music has accompanied Royal Barge Processions to entertain the rowers and inspire them as they row. This musical tradition has become a distinctive feature of the Royal Barge Procession. During this historic Royal Barge Procession around the capital, ceremonial music will be performed to honor HM the King. (NNT)
