Despite claims of delayed athlete allowances, finance officials say they’re still waiting for the Sports Authority’s revised budget plan to approve 480 million baht in SEA Games training funds.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Comptroller General’s Department has clarified that it has not yet received the 480 million Thai baht funding request from the Sports Authority for SEA Games athletes.

Patricia Mongkhonvanit, Director-General of the Comptroller General’s Department, addressed claims made by Preecha Lalun, Deputy Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, that athlete training allowances for the 33rd SEA Games later this year have been delayed since May pending the department’s approval.

An investigation revealed that on June 18th, the National Sports Development Fund board approved an increase in expenditures for sports promotion and athlete development. However, this approval was conditional, requiring the Sports Authority of Thailand’s Elite Sports Development Department to provide additional details based on the board’s feedback before submitting the request to the Ministry of Finance through the Comptroller General’s Department.

As of July 22nd, the department has not received the adjusted plan and budget framework from the Sports Authority. The department is urging the Sports Authority to expedite the required procedures and submit the documents for consideration without delay. (NNT)
