Chonburi Buffalo Racing Festival set for October 17–25

The 155th Buffalo Racing Festival runs October 17–25, featuring traditional contests, buffalo races, cultural activities and live entertainment.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Chonburi province is hosting the 155th Buffalo Racing Festival from October 17 to 25, featuring nine days and nights of traditional activities, competitions, and entertainment. The annual event will take place on the grounds in front of the Mueang Chonburi District Office and Chon Buri Provincial Hall, continuing a tradition celebrated in the province for generations.

The program will begin with a ceremonial tribute to King Taksin the Great at Wat Yai Inthraram. Activities will include traditional activities, Muay Thai and Thai chess competitions, painted plaster buffalo contests, and drawing and coloring competitions for students. Stage contests and concerts by leading artists will be held throughout the festival.


The main Buffalo Racing Day on October 25 will begin with ceremonial cart processions representing local districts, the Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organization, and Pattaya City. The program will continue with buffalo races in several categories and competitions featuring buffalo appearance, health, breeding characteristics, and creative decorations.

A traditional buffalo blessing ceremony and folk activities, including hoop takraw, riddle games, slingshot target shooting, and greased pole climbing, will round out the festivities. The festival offers residents and visitors a chance to experience Chonburi’s longstanding traditions and the close relationship between local farming communities and buffaloes. (NNT)
