
BANGKOK, Thailand – China’s new ambassador to Thailand met with the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, reaffirming strong bilateral ties and discussing regional cooperation and challenges.
Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Eksiri Pintaruchi received a courtesy call from the new Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Thailand, H.E. Mr. Zhang Jianwei, on September 3rd, 2025.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the strong and dynamic relationship between the two nations, highlighting frequent high-level visits and broad cooperation. They noted the significance of 2025, which marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and a year in which both countries serve as co-chairs of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC). Preparations for the 5th MLC Leaders’ Meeting, to be hosted in Thailand later this year, were also discussed.
Ambassador Zhang reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening cooperation and playing a constructive role in regional challenges. Regarding the recent border tensions between Thailand and Cambodia, the Ambassador stated that China, as a close friend of both nations, welcomes the ceasefire and the positive outcomes of the recent General Border Committee (GBC) meeting. He reiterated China’s support for both sides to peacefully resolve the dispute and restore mutual trust through existing bilateral mechanisms. (TNA)
