Candidates kick off election campaigns

BANGKOK, 20 January 2014  Party-list candidates have started their campaigns for the upcoming election, while calling for all eligible voters to show up and cast their votes next month.

Banners and signs of party-list candidates are being put up in every corner of Mae Sot District, Tak Province. Many of the candidates said they would carry on their election campaigns and call for all voters to exercise their rights despite knowing the fact that the scheduled election might be called off anytime.

In Phichit Province, a fight nearly broke out between People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) protesters and government supporters after the PDRC protesters had blown whistles at the Pheu Thai candidates who were on their campaign trail.

In the meantime, the Office of Chainat Election Commission said it was ready for the forthcoming election as the poll venues and election equipment have all beeen prepared.

As for Surin Province, some campaign banners for the Pheu Thai candidates have been destroyed, especially those bearing the picture of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.
