BANGKOK, 22 March 2011 (NNT) – The Cabinet has given a green light to the exemption of toll fees on Expressways Number 7 and 9 during the upcoming Sonkran Festival to facilitate the holiday traffic.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Supachai Jaisamut disclosed that the Cabinet had approved the Transport Ministry’s proposal to provide motorists with free access to Expressways Number 7, or the Bangkok-Chon Buri Motorway, and Number 9, or the East Outer Ring Road, during this year’s Songkran Festival from 16.00 hrs of 8 April to 12.00 hrs of 18 April.

Like every year, a large portion of people in Bangkok will be heading back to their home provinces to spend the long holiday, causing widespread traffic congestion across the capital and its vicinities. The toll fee exemption is a measure to give commuters more convenience, facilitate traffic flows and help the country save on fuel consumption.
