BST Elastomers to Pay THB 9 mil to Map Ta Phut Fire Victims

RAYONG, 15 May 2012 – BST Elastomers Co. will pay THB 9 mil in compensation to families of the fire victims killed in the explosion inside its facility in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate last week. 

The 11 victims are staff of BST Elastomers Co. and those of its contractor. A sum of THB 100,000 will be given to families of the dead for funeral arrangement.

Families of the ill-fated BST Elastomers staff will each receive THB 1 mil baht and insurance money worth 36 times of the victims’ salaries as well as other compensation packages. Families of the contractor’s staff will each receive THB 500,000 in compensation.

The company will also cover all medical expenses of the injured victims.

Meanwhile, environmental activists submitted a letter to Mr. Weerapong Chaiperm, governor of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand calling for a clarification of the explosion, strict execution of safety measures, environmental protection plans, and compensation for victims, as well as revision of industrial investment promotion campaigns in the area.
