BMA to hold Olympic Day Run on 24 Jul in honor of HM the King

BANGKOK, 19 July 2011 – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will organize the annual Olympic Day Run on 24 July to encourage people to exercise and to commemorate His Majesty the King’s seventh-cycle birthday anniversary this year. 

While presiding over the opening ceremony of the Olympic Day Run 2011, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the BMA Taweesak Dechdecho stated that the activity had been arranged every year as a collaboration between the BMA and the Olympic Committee of Thailand. The objective of the event is to raise people’s awareness of the importance of exercising and staying healthy as well as to honor His Majesty the King on the occasion of his 84th birthday anniversary on 5 December this year.

According to Mr Taweesak, the BMA is fully ready to facilitate the walk-run activity both in terms of public relations and the venue and will also provide participants with mobile toilets and medical services.

The Olympic Day Run 2011 will begin at 5.30 hrs on 24 July at the Royal Plaza and proceed around Chitralada Palace. Those interested are welcome to join the activity free of charge. They will also be given t-shirts, medals and certificates as souvenirs at the event.
