BMA evacuating Bang Khen, other areas

BANGKOK, Nov 2 — The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) issued an evacuation order for all Bang Khen district residents as the water level is rising, spreading into the area, and two subdistricts in Lat Phrao and Khlong Sam Wa, as floodwater continues moving slowly toward Vibhavadi Rangsit Road.

Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra said Tuesday that many areas were suffering from deep flood, which is spreading, so the BMA issued additional evacuation orders for all Bang Khen district, and well as two added subdistricts, Sena Niwet Village 2nd phase in Lat Phrao’s Jorakaebua subdistrict; and East Sam Wa subdistrict in Khlong Sam Wa.

There are now seven districts under evacuation announcements — Don Mueang, Bang Phlat, Sai Mai, Thawi Watthana, Lak Si, Taling Chan, and Bang Khen.

Moreover, BMA has announced more areas under a close watch for flooding — all Nong Chok district, and Sai Kong Din and Sai Kong Din Tai in Khlong Sam Wa.

Floodwaters on Wednesday were spreading to Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, inbound and outbound, reaching Klong Lat Yao, beyond Vibhavadi Hospital, with communities in nearby areas under 50cm water.

Local residents said the water rose during the night and was heading to Banmuang newspaper offices, toward Ratchadapisek Road.

Meanwhile, on Phahonyothin Road, water was spreading from Kaset intersection to Senanikom areas but was still far from Ratchayothin intersection.

Traffic at all four directions of the Kaset intersection was closed due to 60cm deep water.

Prachachuen Road from Pongpetch to Prachanukul intersections was inundated by water from Khlong Prapa but passenger vehicles are able to pass. The water is expected to flow into Wongsawang intersection because it is a lower area.
