Bangkok authorities urge residents in flood-prone areas to protect belongings as drainage operations intensify ahead of rain forecast from October 10 to 13.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Bangkok authorities urge residents in flood-prone areas to keep belongings on higher ground as the capital accelerates drainage operations ahead of forecasted rainfall from October 10 to 13. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt stated that while conditions have improved in some areas, water levels remain high and the situation is still vulnerable, especially in eastern Bangkok.

Authorities report ongoing flooding in Lat Krabang, Nong Chok, the Prawet Burirom Canal area, Bang Kapi, and Lat Phrao, with additional runoff entering Bangkok from neighboring areas including Chachoengsao. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is increasing drainage from canals and retention areas, and is repairing and relocating pumps to vulnerable locations to maximize capacity. However, residents in at-risk communities are advised to keep belongings on higher ground until conditions have clearly stabilized.

The BMA is preparing for additional rainfall from October 10 to 13 and is closely monitoring accumulated rainfall that could accelerate flooding. Authorities are enhancing community-level alerts, using event-based warnings and risk-area modeling, to provide targeted, accurate information without causing unnecessary concern. (NNT)
