BANGKOK – The Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) visited Khlong Ong Ang to supervise the demolition of illegal markets on Saphan Lek and Saphan Han.

Permanent Secretary for the BMA Pirapong Saicheua visited the site to follow up on the progress of removing illegal structures. The BMA began demolition eight days ago, with operations at Saphan Han nearly finished and Saphan Lek at 20% completion. Authorities have so far removed 100 of the 500 vending booths at Saphan Lek, formally known as Damrongsathit Bridge.

The illegal structures make up Saphan Lek Market and Saphan Han Market. The BMA urges all its vendors to cooperate with the authorities and vacate the premises.

The city administration also warned the general public to refrain from entering the demolition area, due to operating risks to life and property. Demolitions are likely to finish by the end of this month. Electricity officials will also cut power to the markets and conduct ongoing maintenance.
