The Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, Chayapol Thitisak presided over the opening ceremony today and said that the government recognizes the importance of cooperation with foreign countries in disaster preparedness at both regional and international levels. The government supports all related agencies in building the network for the Disaster Management in ASEAN, as the ASEAN community will be implemented at the end of this year. He said dealing with disaster preparation needs local wisdom and an adaptation of knowledge about each specific area.

The DDPM and its partners hold the event for the ASEAN day for disaster management every year, to raise awareness and encourage the learning of disaster management, and to create a sustained ‘security culture’ in Thai society.

The 13th October of every year marks the ASEAN day for disaster management, which is the same day as the United Nation’s international day for disaster reduction.
