BANGKOK, Thailand – Fourth Army Area Commander Lt. Gen. Chakrit Ucharatana presided over the opening of a civil affairs training program in Songkhla province on November 2, calling for closer cooperation between government agencies and local communities to promote lasting peace in Thailand’s southern border provinces.
During the ceremony, Lt. Gen. Chakrit discussed the fiscal year 2027 peacebuilding strategy, guided by the royal development principles of understanding local conditions, engaging with communities, and improving quality of life. He made clear the importance of public trust, cultural awareness, and respect for the region’s diverse religious and cultural traditions.
The commander called for political engagement, development, and justice to take precedence over military measures. He noted that security operations must remain within legal limits while respecting human rights and humanitarian principles, with public safety and community confidence central to reducing conflict.
The Royal Thai Army’s civil affairs units organized the training, which covers community relations, public communication, cultural cooperation, and youth engagement. LT. Gen. Chakrit encouraged participants to apply these skills to improve relations with residents and support long-term peace and stability in the southern border provinces. (NNT)
