BAGNKOK, 11 January 2013 – The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has introduced its broadcasting arm called “MOAC TV”, aiming to educate Thais regarding new agricultural technologies.

According to Agriculture Minister Yukol Limlamthong, the newly-launched MOAC TV will serve as a medium of contacts between the government and the agricultural sector. It will help increase Thailand’s agricultural competitiveness in the ASEAN region, as well as in the world market. It will also be the main channel to send out warning messages against natural threats of any kind, so that people will have enough time to brace for potential disasters.

He said that at present, 52% out of the approximately 20.5 million Thai households have access to cable and satellite TVs. He expected the percentage to rise to 98.6 by 2015 when the number of Thai households reaches approximately 25 million.

Mr Yukol reiterated that the opening of the MOAC TV provides an additional channel for viewers to access thorough agricultural information regarding national policies, problems and solutions, global economic situation, and natural changes in the world. This will help viewers to prepare and adjust themselves to the fast-changing situation in an efficient manner.
