
BANGKOK, Thailand – Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai has delivered five urgent policies to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, aiming to transform the capital into a sustainable city of happiness.
At a meeting at Government House, Phumtham, who is also Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, emphasized that the government’s policies must be implemented with an approach that is urgent, serious, targeted, and sustainable to effectively address the challenges faced by city residents. The meeting was attended by key officials, including Deputy Interior Minister Theerarat Samrejvanich, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Interior Ansit Samphantharat, and Bangkok Permanent Secretary Dr. Wantanee Wattana.
Phumtham acknowledged Bangkok’s role as the nation’s economic, social, and cultural hub, which faces significant challenges. These include traffic and public transport management, environmental issues, climate change, social inequality, and overall quality of life. The Ministry of Interior, which oversees the BMA, has tasked the city with integrating the government’s urgent policies into its development plans.
The first of the five policies focuses on the prevention and suppression of drug-related problems, which are identified as a primary source of crime, violence, and instability within communities. (NNT)
