1st ASEAN Disaster Medical Rally held in Chiang Rai during 22-25 Jun

CHIANG RAI, 23 June 2015  – The1st “ASEAN Disaster Medical Rally: Together We Will Survive” is being held during 22-25 June in Thailand’s northernmost province of Chiang Rai. It is jointly organized by Chiang Rai Provincial Public Health Office, Ministry of Public Health, and the National Institute for Emergency Medicine.

The rally was officially opened on Tuesday by Mr. Bhichit Rattakul, Emergency Medical Committee member and Chairman of the Sub-committee on Emergency Medical System in Disaster Situation.

Bhichit said that main objectives are to enhance cooperation, build partnerships and collaborative network among national and international public health organizations in particular the ASEAN member states.

“At the rally, all participants can develop knowledge of disaster preparedness and emergency response and learn mutual experiences from local and international teams,” he continued.

Over 350 doctors, nurses, paramedics and EMT from Thailand and ASEAN countries as well as Japan are scheduled to attend a field training session on 24 June at two sites, one at Chiang Rai Rajabhat University and the other at the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Regional Center Region 15.

The field session will feature training on Emergency Medical Systems (EMS), line of command in emergency situation, field hospital management, water rescues, building collapse, and chemical spills.
