‘11th Long Boat Tournament’ at Mabprachan reservoir

Last weekend saw thousands of onlookers converging on lake Mabprachan for the 11th long boat tournament.

The teams were competing for HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s and HRH Princess Somsawali’s Cups.

The competition is held to preserve the ancient Thai sport and to boost the City’s economy.

This year 28 long boats competed from different regions of the country and had 6 boats from neighboring countries such as Taipei, Macau, Hong Kong, China and Cambodia.

The competition was broadcast live on Sophon Cable TV and the winning team in the 55 men category was from Samutprakarn who were also last year’s winners, they took home HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn trophy and 100,000 baht in cash.

In the 30 men category it was the team from Petchaburi who again also won last year they won HRH Princess Somsawali’s trophy and 50,000 baht.

In the international category Cambodia came in first place winning 50,000 baht.
