BANGKOK, Thailand – Surapong Piyachoti, the Deputy Minister of Transport, has instructed the Transport Company Limited (Bor Kor Sor) to prepare for the expected return of passengers to Bangkok from April 15-17, following the Songkran holidays. The Ministry of Transport is emphasizing safety measures for buses and drivers while ensuring there are enough vehicles to meet passenger demand.
Chatchawal Promratham, the Acting President of Transport Co., reported that on April 14, a total of 89,532 passengers traveled from Bangkok, with 33,170 departing and 56,362 returning. The buses operated 5,896 trips in total.
From April 15-17, Transport Co. predicts that approximately 100,000 passengers will return to Bangkok daily, with about 4,800 bus trips. The company is ensuring that bus stations across the country are ready to accommodate the large volume of travelers and has reminded drivers to be physically and mentally prepared to provide safe services.
For passengers arriving at the Bangkok Bus Terminal (Chatuchak), buses will stop at the new central bus station, which is conveniently connected to the MRT, BTS, and public taxis. Transport Co. has also partnered with the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) to provide 15 bus routes, shuttle buses between the bus terminal and MRT stations, and taxis for easy and safe connections.
To ensure safety, Transport Co. is working with the Department of Land Transport (DLT) to inspect buses and drivers before departure, ensuring all vehicles are equipped with safety tools like fire extinguishers and emergency exits, and that drivers are drug- and alcohol-free. Long-distance buses will have two drivers for journeys exceeding 4 hours. (TNA)
