Zvonareva and Cibulkova are top seeds in PTT Pattaya Open


The provisional seeding for the US$220,000 PTT Pattaya Open, which will be held at the Dusit Thani, Pattaya from 5 – 12 February was announced today, with Russian star Vera Zvonareva ranked No 8 in the world as the No 1 seed. Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia who is ranked No 16 in the world is the No 2 seed; with fellow countrywoman Daniela Hantuchova ranked No 20 as the 3rd seed. Russian Maria Kirilenko who is ranked No 26 is the 4th seed.

The top Asian player in the field, Jie Zheng from China, who has moved up to No 35 in the rankings is the 5th seed, followed by Kazakhstan’s Galina Voskoboeva as 6th seed, with Romania’s  Sorana Cirstea and Vania King of the USA completing the seeding.

Zvonareva and Kirilenko have already arrived in Pattaya since Saturday to prepare early for the tournament, whilst other leading stars in the PTT Pattaya Open are expected to arrive later due to Fed Cup commitments this week.

This year will see the at least 7 Thai players competing in the singles tournament with Tamarine Tanasugarn, Noppawan Lertcheewakarn and Nicha Lertpitaksinchai in the main draw. Whilst Nudnida Luangnam, Varatchaya Wongteanchai, Tanaporn Thongsing and Nattawadee Kotcha will play in the qualifying rounds.

The main draw matches commence on 6 February with play starting from 15.00 daily until the semi-finals on Saturday 11 February and the finals on Sunday 12 February which will begin at 16.00. Tickets are available at 300, 500, 800 and 1,200 baht.
