Sunday, Nov. 15, Green Valley – Stableford

A Flight

1st Michael Williams (15) 44pts

2nd Rod Torrie (15) 38pts

3rd Donal McGuigan (16) 35pts

B Flight

1st Don Everett (20) 36pts

2nd Ged Foy (27) 33pts

3rd Joe Peters (20) 33pts

Now that high season is starting we had a larger group out today and so decided to play two flights.  After some very good scores the previous week, today we got more of the same with Michael Williams in the A Flight having an excellent score of forty four points despite a one shot penalty.  This was even more impressive as Michael had lost a shot on his handicap the past week and after this he will be losing even more!

Michael Williams & Dympna Burke.

Five points behind Michael and with a score which would have won most weeks was Rod Torrie while Donal McGuigan, whose handicap has also been coming down, was third with thirty five.

Don Everett took the top spot in the B Flight with an even par thirty six points.  Ged Foy had three points less but still did enough to come second on a count back over Joe Peters.

Rod Torrie had the only ‘2’ of the day and so had a very good pay day.

Tuesday, Nov. 17, Pattana – Stableford

1st John Fenwick (21) 34pts

2nd Ged Foy (27) 34pts

3rd Dympna Burke (31) 32pts

4th Richie Hurley (6) 32pts

Today we were back at Pattana where we had not played in a long time.  The course was as usual in very good condition but it seemed to have rained very heavy the night before and it was very wet and playing very long.

We all played off the white tees, over 6,700 yards, and with no run on the ball it turned out long for most of our group, which is probably why no one managed to play to their handicaps.  It was also extremely hot out there, this is supposed to be the cold season but I don’t know what is happening this year as it was more like hot season than cold.

It is also more like low season than high season in terms of the number of people on the course and the management out there are trying very hard to promote the course and looking for bookings for the next few months.

Our winner today was John Fenwick with thirty four points.  Ged Foy also had thirty four but lost the count back to John and had to settle for second.  We also had a count back for third and fourth places with Dympna Burke coming out the victor in third and Richie Hurley fourth.  Richie had the consolation of having the only ‘2’ of the day.

Thursday, Nov 19, Khao Kheow – Stableford

1st Dympna Burke (31) 38pts

2nd Kevin Blake (9) 37pts

3rd Richie Hurley (6) 31pts

4th Don Everett (20) 26pts

We were back at Khao Kheow today on another course which we hadn’t played in a long time.  The course was in reasonable condition, not great but it is still the best course in the area and a pleasure to play there.  We played C and A off the yellow tees and the fairways were wet and it was playing very long.

Again today it was uncomfortably hot, especially for this time of year and I think the heat and the long course got to most of our players.  It didn’t seem to affect Dympna Burke though as she had an excellent thirty eight points to win the day.  Kevin Blake also played excellent golf, having two birdies and an eagle on the par five index three, and although he had one blank and quite a few three-putts he still scored thirty seven points and came second.  After that the scoring was a bit more mundane with Richie Hurley coming third with thirty one and Don Everett fourth with twenty six.

Frank McGowan had the only ‘2’ of the day.
