PSC golf from The Golf Club

Monday, July 23, Green Valley (White tees) – Stableford

1st Bob Watson (3) 42pts

2nd Grant Cadell (16) 41pts

3rd Andy Crabb (20) 40pts

4th Nick Handscombe (12) 40pts

Once more, everyone was raving about the condition of Green Valley.  From tee to green, this course is in the best nick it has been for a long time and now is the time to enjoy one of the best courses we have here in Pattaya.  A full signup sheet of 28 golfers made for a tight competition and some good scoring today.  All the podium places were in the 40’s, that’s how good the game was out there this Monday.

Bob Watson is a steady golfer, and with a 2.7 handicap he has to earn his points.  Bob made it look easy and won the comp with 42 Stableford points, but in fact he had a late charge and birdied the last 3 holes for a well fought victory.  Well played mate, nice finish – you pulled that one out of your Footjoys!

Grant Cadell also had great round with a big 41 circled at the top of his card to claim 2nd place.  Grant had a birdie on the last, but it was the blob on the unlucky 13th that did him in.  Andy Crabb and Nick Handscombe both had 40 points, but Andy took 20 points on the back to win by count back over Nick’s 19 on the back.  That’s some damn good golf guys!

In August we are having a 2-day Eclectic at Green Valley on the 20th-21st so sign up soon as space is limited.

Tuesday, July 24, Siam Old Course (White tees) – Stableford

1st Jeff Calrow (12) 38pts

2nd John Emmerson (10) 36pts

3rd Phil Page (10) 35pts

4th Nick Handscombe (12) 35pts

The treat for today was The Old Course at Siam, arguably the best golf course in town.  Membership here is around 250,000 baht with annual subs of 27,500 so when you throw around that kind of money, you get an amazing golf course which is always immaculate.

A lot of the TGC regulars are members here so it was a strong comp with lots of laughs on this Schmidt-Curley track.  We had perfect weather once again with a slight overcast and a whippy 15-20 mph wind just to make things interesting.

Jeff Calrow had a bit of a slow start with 17 Stableford points going out.  Being the mentally tough golfer that he is, that did not deter him and Jeff turned it all around on the back nine (just like Els, eh?) and sashayed his way to the clubhouse with 21 on the back nine.  Father of 3 girls, Samui smoothy Calrow took the gold medal for today’s great round so well played to ya geezah!

Fellow members John Emmerson with 36 and Phil Page a shot behind on 35 took a member’s 1-2-3 with guest Nicky Handscombe in at 4th once again losing on count back with 19 for the second day in a row!  Jeez Nicky, what are the odds mate?  At least he bested the 3 other 4-balls for a free meal in the clubhouse.

We will be playing here or Plantation once a month for the rest of the low season, so get out and join us next time!  Sure, it’s more pricey (2,550 baht all in) than lots of other good courses in Pattaya, but don’t you deserve to treat yourself once in a while?

Thursday, July 26, Greenwood A & C (White tees) – Stableford

1st Sonny Goldsbury (14) 42pts

2nd Larry Immethun (7) 38pts

3rd Steve Lodge (10) 35pts

Is this course the best deal in town?  At only 850 baht for green fee and caddy, it is hard to beat.  Far improved from the old Noble Place, Greenwood is a Pattaya gem with 27 beautiful holes of golf.  The “C” course is one of the best 9-hole layouts in Thailand and we were lucky enough to play it today.

It had been a strange week weather wise so we were not sure of what to expect when we got to the course.  The clouds looked ominous as we left town for the 331 but as it turned out, it was a nice cool day for golf.  20 golfers were in the comp, and only the last group got wet on the 18th hole, that’s pretty darn good timing.

Sonny Goldsbury towered above the field (not easy for him) with 42 points, simple as that.  Our Maori mate also played host for the day and showed the lads how to handle the links of Greenwood.

Larry Immethun played a great front nine with 20 points but couldn’t improve on the back.  He still took 2nd with a fine 38 but was 4 shots out, and finally Steve Lodge took 3rd with 35 Stableford points.

Thanks to all who chose to join in with us for this weeks’ golf from The Golf Club.
