PSC Golf from The Bunker Boys

Monday, May 14, Pattavia – Stableford

1st Stuart Tinkler (16) 44pts

2nd Les Hall (24) 37pts

3rd Jimy Carr (17) 35pts

Another day when the weather gods smiled on the Bunker Boys, well most of them anyway. Our last group suffered the consequences of slow play by being rained upon on the eighteenth tee all the way to the green; everybody else from our group was already inside enjoying a cold beer.

The Pattavia course was in excellent condition, however, the heat was oppressive, the humidity stifling, and the fruit flies irritating in the extreme. It was impossible to settle over a shot without tiny black flies all over your face and hands.

It seems last week’s extraordinary results were not a flash in the pan as today’s results show. In a brilliant display of controlled golf, Stuart Tinkler took the honors today with a magnificent forty-four points (twenty-two on each nine), which included three birdies. He also had two further birdie attempts lip out, so it was no surprise that he felt the cut of the handicapper’s scalpel back at the Bunker.

Second place went to Les Hall with a very respectable thirty-seven.  Les had his card marked by Trevor and was virtually indecipherable so a little censure was in order for both. Third place was filled by Jimmy Carr on thirty-five points.

Near pins went to Les Cobban, Neil Carter, Trevor Priestly, and Michael Brett.

Wednesday, May 16. Pattana C.C. – Stableford

1st Neil Carter (13) 33pts

2nd Jimmy Carr (17) 31pts

3rd Geoff Parker (14) 30pts

It seems all good things come to an end and so it was today for the Bunker Boys. First, the weather which had been very kind to us in recent weeks took revenge in spades. On the twelfth fairway the rain, which had been threatening for a while, hit suddenly and with very scary lightning it forced everybody to abandon play and run for cover. After about forty minutes play resumed under “pick, clean, and place” rules.

The brilliant scores of recent weeks seemed a distant memory as scoring was mediocre at best. Neil Carter took first place with thirty-three points, second went to Jimmy Carr on thirty-one points, and Geoff Parker rounded out the scoring in third place on thirty.

Near pins went to Mark Stanley, Les Cobban, and two to Neil Carter.

Today marked the welcome return of Tony Robbins to the golf course after a lengthy lay-off after shoulder surgery, he played remarkably well after such a long time out of the game.

Friday, May 18, Crystal Bay –
Medal

1st Michael Brett (16) net 69

2nd Mike Lloyd (19) net 69

3rd Neil Carter (13) net 72

The second medal round of the month was played at the Crystal Bay course under grey skies with rain once again interrupting play but only for a short time with a passing shower. Once again we were lucky as the weather seemed much worse no too far away with thunder and lightning just over the mountains.

Today saw a welcome return to better scoring after Wednesday’s debacle. Both Michael Brett and Mike Lloyd returned net scores of sixty-nine only separated by count-back. Neil Carter took third place with a net seventy-two. Takeshi Hakozaki was cruising to victory but collapsed on the final hole with a nine to fall out of contention.

Near pins went to Takeshi Hakozaki, a small consolation, Neil Carter, Mike Lloyd and Michael Brett.
