PSC golf from The Outback Golf Bar

Monday, Sept. 5, Khao Kheow – Stableford

A field of 23 Outbackers arrived at a virtually deserted Khao Kheow to play the B & C loops on a course which is seriously struggling with the wet weather of late.  The fairways were not only wet and overgrown with ‘cow grass’ but also the grass was long, making it abundantly clear that the staff had been unable to cut them for some time.  The rough was penal and the generally poor scoring was a direct result, as the computer recorded that the course played 3 shots tougher than par and no handicap increases are to be applied.

The weather threatened as black clouds gathered and a few rumbles were heard but the rain stayed on course A and remarkably B & C remained dry.

The greens were fine and we can only hope that there is a break in the weather soon in order that the staff can bring this course back to the condition it should be in, as fast as possible.

Paul Smith (1) and Steve Mann (12) shared the top score of 34, Paul beating Steve on count back; and newcomer to the Outback, John Anderson won Div B with a score of just 30, ahead of a surprised Bob Lindborg on 29.

There were just two ‘2’s, both on the island green (B8) from two newcomers to the Outback, Dave Ritchie and Gary Minchin.

Wednesday, Sept. 7, Burapha – Stableford

Twenty Outbackers travelled to Burapha on a beautiful sunny day.  We played A & B off the blues and the course was in great condition, with fast greens, dry fairways and rough that had been cut.  Some players had Laem Chabang caddies as Burapha C & D were hosting some 200 doctors for a corporate day so hopefully nobody got sick in Pattaya today.

Welcome to Peter Knight having his first game with the Outback and so long to Barney Clarkson who leaves us for Australia, after an extended stay here enjoying his golf.

We had two divisions with 9 players in each division (as two of the guys were just starting the game and played from the whites and were not in the comp.).

The winner of B flight was Steve Poznanski (20) with a great score of 42, a country mile clear of John O’Keefe (20), the runner up on 35 points, with Tommy Jensen (20) third on 34.

The winner of A flight was Stephen Mann (14), who at last showed his true ability but should now go out and buy himself a driver, with 40 points, from runner up, Peter Knight (9) on 38 points with Philip Gough (16) back in third with 36.

There were only two ‘2’s, both on hole 6 (A6) from Steve Poznanski & Peter Knight.
