Local wildcards Sonchat Ratiwatana and Sanchai Ratiwatana scored a first-round win over Spain’s Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Marinko Matosevic of Australia 6-4, 6-3, and advanced into their first quarter-final at the Thailand Open since 2007.
The twin brothers kept unforced errors to a minimum and made the most of key points, as they converted four of six break-point opportunities to beat the Spanish-Australian pair in fine style on Monday.
Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana return the ball against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Marinko Matosevic in the first round of the Thailand Open 2012 in Bangkok, Monday, Sept. 24.
The Ratiwatanas earned a crucial break in the ninth game of the opening set and held their next service game to take the first set.
Garcia-Lopez and Matosevic responded by breaking the twin’s first service game to go up 2-0 in the second. However, the brothers broke back immediately and snatched two more breaks of serve in the seventh and ninth games to seal the match.
The twins were due to take on either the all-French pairing of Gilles Simon and Gael Monfils or Spanish duo David Marrero and Fernando Verdasco in the quarter finals.
