PSC Golf from The Growling Swan

Monday, May 25, Pleasant Valley – Stableford

With 20 on the sheet we had 2 late withdrawals so 18 of us headed out to the picturesque Pleasant Valley.  It was quite a warm day with a little breeze and the course was in good nick, with the greens being as fast as A Pizza Hut delivery driver.  Carts were permitted on fairways that seemed a little water affected in places.

You could have thrown a blanket over our four place getters it was that close, all played well with some big hitters amongst them.

1st Graham Rice (14) 40pts

2nd Takeshi Hakozaki (13) 39pts

3rd Jim Groves (13) 38pts

4th Peter Muldoon (27) 36pts

Near Pins: Kev Waycott 5th, Jim Groves 8th, Takeshi 13th and Keith Buchanan 17th.

Long Putts: Rocky Lawson 9th and Troy Pickford 18th.

Upon being awarded The Coveted Compass Cap, Peter Grey was heard to say,”I can never remember this course till I get here and then I remember I should not be here”.

Thursday, May 28, Pattavia – Monthly Mug

Today was our Monthly Mug Day sponsored by Asia Backpackers, thanks goes to Peter Bass and co.

Twenty punters headed out to the pineapple plantation better known as Pattavia and what a great surprise to see that they had fixed the entrance road.  Excitement filled the bus and reminded me of when we got running water back at the farm!  We had a very enthusiastic group of golfers for today’s challenge.

Pleasant playing conditions were the order of the day but as usual the green played as they always do, rather tricky – and for the few of us who cannot read greens very tricky indeed.  A nice breeze stayed with us for most of the day keeping conditions comfortable.

(Left-right) Sal Brizzi, Peter Grey & Lindsey Slender.

Denis Steele took out the Monthly Mug, closely followed by Sal Brizzi (who shot 1 over for the day), with Ebrahim coming in third to finish off A Flight.

Lindsey Slender won B Flight on a count back from John Anderson (who was giving the game away 2 weeks ago), with Ernie Picken taking out third place.

Special mention to Peter Bass who eagled the par-5 18th, well done Pete a great effort yet again and you had a good incentive!

A Flight (0–20)

The NAGA award went to the person that it was named after, Peter Grey, who is one of the golfers referred to as in not being able to read a green.  He collected a near pin (hole 4) only to then 3-putt for a bogey!

Note: The GS is a friendly golf outlet and caters for and encourages all golfers male and female to have a hit at any of our weekly outings.  We generally play Mondays and Thursdays at one of the many fine golf courses in and around Pattaya.  Please contact Peter Grey if you are interested on 0861 503086.

The Growling Swan also caters to the bowls enthusiasts.  Bus transport departs the GS on Wednesdays at 10 AM to play at Cocos on undercover synthetic greens and on Sundays at the same time for open grass bowling at The Retreat.  Please contact Paul Rennison on 0843 454005 if you wish to partake.  The cost including return bus transport, bowling fees and a hot lunch is less than 400 baht so great value for a day out.
