Steady stuff from Duckett

The Pattaya Golf Society (IPGC) at Rabbi’s Elephant Bar

The Pattaya Golf Society travelled to Emerald on Monday, 23rd July, to play a stableford competition on the course which was reasonably prepared but with greens recovering from coring and dressing.  Thus the back nine greens, most recently treated, were slower and less consistent than the front nine.  Nevertheless the course as always provided the challenge needed to start the golfing week with PGS.

Sharing third place again were Dave Edwards and Mr Len, both recording 34 points, just one behind runner-up Wichai Tananusorn, on 35.  The winner was Alan Duckett with a consistent 37 points, never a bad score on the course which demands a greater share of good luck than any other.

Masa Takano recorded the only birdie ‘2’ of the day on the short fifteenth and the Booby Bevy went to Rabbi for his six attempts to escape a greenside bunker on the fourth.

The Boss’s free beer draw was won by lady golfer Wan Meeraka.

Masa beats tough Bangpra

On Wednesday, 25th July, the Pattaya Golf Society visited the excellent Bangpra club to play a medal round on the challenging course with white tees well back to allow for tee box maintenance and greens advising a speed of 9 but probably exceeding that by at least two points on Mr Stimp’s box of tricks.

An early start awaited the group and they found that everyone had teed off on time.  Throughout it stayed overcast and conditions were perfect aside from a stiff breeze which remained with the group all day.

After a long and almost golf-free stay in UK, Wichai Tananusorn showed he was finding his game again with a net 78 in third place, a few behind the consistent Dave Edwards who again came second with net 75.  The winner was Masanori Takano, the very steady Japanese PGS regular, who carded a fine net 71 off his handicap of seven.

There were no birdie ‘2’s and the Booby Bevy went to Kerry Jonsson for his mishit practice swing on the first which dribbled the ball across the cart path leading to his second shot from the assembled gallery.

Rabbi’s free beer draw was won by Gary Bolger, on his first game back after a long stay in Australia.  Welcome home Gary!

Consistency the key for Edwards

The Pattaya Golf Society visited Phoenix on Friday, 27th July to play a stableford competition on the Mountain and Lakes nines.  The course was in relatively good condition with moderately paced greens but as usual at Phoenix the pace of play was pedestrian.  The signs are there, and so are the marshalls, but none appear to be working.

Those weathering the interminable delays included third placed Robbie Taylor who recorded 33 points, and joint winners Masashi Iizumi and Dave Edwards who returned 35 points each.  Once again no birdie ‘2’s were recorded and the Boss’s free beer draw was won by Paul Brett.
