Once again the weather was perfect for today’s game, Tuesday, August 28, with clear blue sky with wispy clouds and a cool breeze.  Just like we remember back in the ‘old country’ (well, maybe once a year!)

With the Mountain course still undergoing final preparation for the upcoming high season we tackled the Lake and Ocean course (my favourite two).  That first hole on Mountain is getting a bit tough for us old codgers these days.  In saying that the whole course was too tough for me today, so I just enjoyed driving round on the cart watching Paul Sharples demolish the course with a superb Gross 78, which after deducting his handicap of 11 left him with a net 67 to claim the first prize along with the prestigious Trattoria Italiana voucher.

In second place was Eamon Murtagh with a fine net 70 (this is normally good enough to win) and in third place was Richard Baldwin with a net 72, having the best back nine out of four on the same score.

Near pins were claimed by Paul Sharples, Eamon Murtagh, Graham Tebb while the lucky draw prizes (donated by our hosts The Relax Bar) went to Peter Harris, John (I never win the lucky draw) Bartley, Patrick Browne & Bob Neylon.

Anyone interested in joining in with our group should give me (Mike) a call on 087 091 7565.  All you need to enjoy the lushness of the fairways at Phoenix at a reasonable price is an official handicap of no more than 28 and be of the Male gender.

Our next sea fishing trips are scheduled for 15th and 29th September.  There are still a few places available, for a great day out on the ocean.
