Monday, Sept. 17, Phoenix Golf – Stableford

With just three groups playing today we were away a little earlier than usual for a leisurely 4-hour round of golf on arguable one of the most picturesque courses in this area. We played Mountain and Ocean loops and they are in spectacular condition at the moment, with greens that will hold and were great to putt on.

More than half the field scored more than 30 points with the others like the scribe not faring so well, but that is down to loft disease. There were no ‘2’s, which is strange as the par threes are not that long so maybe it was the putting that deserted us this day.

There was a count back for all the places today with three golfers on 35 points:- Thiery Temime took 3rd place, Lloyd Shuttleworth 2nd and The Nipper aka Kim Truscott managed 1st courtesy of his 21 points on the back nine holes.

Wednesday, Sept. 19, Royal Lakeside – Stableford

Travelling to Royal Lakeside golf club is getting really easy apart from the resealing of some parts of the Chonburi bypass, But it is well worth the drive, the course is in fantastic condition and you just couldn’t get a bad lie anywhere on the course while the greens were tremendous.

We only had 5 ladies today and they had a ball coming off the golf course slightly under the weather but laughing and having a good time great to see. Jang managed to win with a fine effort of 35 points with Miss Sasicha taking 2nd spot with 31.

In the men’s division it was a different matter with Arch Armstrong taking 4th place playing to his handicap with 36 points. Jeff North took 3rd with 37 points, and it was a count back for the top places between Kevin Wild and Capt Bob. Kevin unfortunately got his better nine on the front, scoring 21 points to Bob’s 19 but it was a different matter on the back with Kevin only managing to score 17 to Bob’s 19 for the Capt to take top spot and relegate Kevin to 2nd.

There were two 2’s and both went to Jerry Sweetnam.

Friday, Sept. 21, Burapha – Stableford

Rick Culley.
Rick Culley.

It was a hard day at the office today at Burapha and no carts off the cart paths made for some very slow going for some of the older players. It wasn’t that wet but they have had a good deal of rain in recent afternoons which made for soft fairways and muddy balls. The day was glorious for golf although a bit hot but everyone managed to get around.

The scoring was reasonable also with a count back on 35 points for 3rd place as Graham Beaumont took that spot off the Nipper. 2nd place went to Capt Bob with 36 points and Rick Culley took the top spot with 37 points.

There were three ‘2’s, coming from Bob Philp. Gerard Lambert and Thiery Temime.
