Monday, July 20, The Emerald – Stableford

There were a few concerns before our booking here regarding the condition of the course but we had also heard a few good reports regarding improvements made so we thought we would give it a try.  As it turned out, the majority of the players were happy with the new conditions of the course and we will be returning again soon.

We had enough players for two divisions out with the cut made at 8-13 and 17+ and there were two 35’s winning both divisions.  Terry Madsen was the winner in division 1, with Chris Voller taking second three points behind and Jerry Sweetnam placed third after scoring 30 points.

Tom Murphy and Burnie Sinclair.Tom Murphy and Burnie Sinclair.

Iain Walsh topped division 2 standings while Countback Burnie secured second place after beating Tom Murphy 17/14 on the back-nine, both coming in with 33 points each.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Angus McClean and Jerry Sweetnam, and (Div 2) Iain Walsh.

Harry Vincenzi birdied the 13th to record the only ‘2’ of the day and win the multi-rollover pot in division 2.

Wednesday, July 22, Khao Kheow – Stableford

The A & B nines here were allocated for us today and we had an almost identical cut in the two divisions as of Monday, but division 2 was set at 15+.

New member Tom Murphy, from the Gold Coast, won division 2 with 34 points, four up on Harry Vincenzi in second and Countback Burnie yet again beat Gary Simpson 14/13 on the back nine after a mediocre 28 points each.

Sid Crawley, playing off 12, was best in the top flight with a modest 31 points while Chris Voller took second one point behind and Terry Madsen placed third with 29.

Near pins were claimed by (Div. 1) Dave Horne, Ian Speirs and Chris Voller, and (Div. 2) Curtis Hessler and Gary Simpson.

There were no ‘2’s in either division so the pots rollover into the following week.

Friday, July 24, Eastern Star – Stableford

Just three players short of three divisions today and we had the exact cut as of Wednesday with two 37-pointers winning both divisions.

Playing off 9 Marty Rock topped division 1, with Frank Kelly in second place one point behind on 36 and battling for third place came two 35’s, with Chris Voller edging Jerry Sweetnam 18/15 on the back-nine.

Iain Walsh won division 2 with his 37-pointer and five points behind Tony Thorne beat Darryl Blair 19/17 on the back nine for second spot.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Arthur Hancock (2) and Marty Rock (2), and (Div 2) Roar Berger, Darryl Blair, Bob Poole and Tony Thorne.

Once again there were no ‘2’s in either division so rollovers to the next Friday.

We still need some heavy rain in this area as the approach to the fairways are very patchy and bald but we have not implemented any local or G.U.R. rulings as of yet.

The I.P.G.C. has a two man scramble at Eastern Star on Wednesday, August 5 with a presentation and buffet at the course after the round.  We will also hold a fun rainbow game here on Friday 14th.
