Murdering Murtagh on the loose

I don’t know what this guy did for the 3 to 4 months he was away in Europe (various places) but whatever it was it has certainly improved his game.  In the last two weeks or so since he returned he has scored sub handicap scores.  Never mind, as we say, “enjoy it while you can” because very soon (especially when your handicap comes down) the bubble will burst.

Today, Oct. 9, Eamon Murtagh scored 40 points to leave the rest of the field way behind with the next best scores coming from Peter Harris on 33 points and John Bartley with the same but having a slightly poorer back nine.  Eamon was duly awarded with the KPK Food Services cap as depicted in the photo with one of the lovely staff (Pon) wearing it at the Relax Bar.

With the weather being very inclement over the last week or so the fairways of Phoenix have rarely been seen wetter, thus allowing carts on paths only.  This also hinders the shorter hitting players due to there being no run on the fairways.  Mind you, a few of our big hitters had trouble scoring as well.

Near pins this day went to Tim Mason (2) and John Bartley.  Lucky draw winners (sponsored by our hosts The Relax Bar) were Mike Gerrard (free massage), David Lusha (free drink) and Mukesh Thakker (50 baht).

The previous Friday, Oct. 5, another guy, Gerry Hughes, from the ‘Old Country’ (Ireland) managed to score 38 points to beat Mukesh Thakker (36pts) into second place with yours truly on 35 points to claim third.

Near pins went to Peter Rawling, Mike Gerrard and Bill Hewitt.  Lucky draw winners were Paul Taylor, Granville Swanton and Patrick Browne.

I can advise you all that as from the 1st November the high season rates (Monday to Friday) will apply to non Phoenix members.  However, within our group any non member can enjoy a special green fee rate of only 1.000 baht (plus caddy 300 baht) as a guest of a member.  Carts at Phoenix cost 700 baht for 18 holes and only 350 baht for nine holes and two players can share.

We always encourage new members or guests but please be aware the we limit our field to 6 groups only and we do not allow any handicap to exceed 28.  Beginners or non proficient players would not fit in with this group.  Neither do we allow ladies to participate in the game but they are very welcome at the presentation at The Relax Bar after the game.

Anyone interested in joining or going sea fishing can call me (Mike) on 087 091 7565.
