Sunday, Dec. 9, Green Valley – Monthly Medal

We had our last monthly medal for 2018 here today at Green Valley on a very pleasant day for golf. The course was soft after the recent rain and although it played long it was still in excellent condition.

The best way to be in with a chance of winning the coveted gold medal in January is to win a few of the monthly ones and so keep the competition down. Today it was Joe McArdle’s (H/cap 18) turn to do this as he won his second one for this year, posting a net sixty-six which was four shots clear of his nearest rival. In second place in the B flight was Joe Peters (26) with a net seventy and we then had two players with a net seventy-five and here Peter Henshaw (29) won the countback to come third ahead of Phil Voas (21).

In the A flight Paul Pavloff (5) came out the winner with a net seventy, just three over gross. Jerry Sweetnam (10) took second with a net seventy-one and then we had another three players on a net seventy-five and here on the countback Nick Caulfield (6) came third, Paul Butler (16) was fourth and Lyle Blaw just lost out.

Despite having a large group out we had only one ‘2’ today which meant that Russell Gilroy actually won the most money today.

Tuesday, Dec. 11, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

We had sixteen players today for our regular monthly visit to Mountain Shadow. The course was in good condition and the greens ran at a consistent speed.

We had two divisions and coming out on top in the A flight was Shaun Merriman (14) with 39 points. Dennis Lea (13) was a close second with 38 and third place was decided on countback, with Jerry Sweetnam (10) having the better back nine to keep Nick Caulfield (6) off the podium after both posted 34 points overall.

B flight was also a tight affair with Joe Peters (25) winning on countback (19-17) over Ted Morris (17), both on 36 points. Third place went to Michael Healy (17) 35 on his card.

There were three ‘2’s today, from Russell Gilroy, Ted Morris & Joe Peters.

Thursday, Dec. 13, Khao Kheow – Stableford

We played the B and C nines at Khao Kheow today with a slightly smaller group.

Joe Peters (26) has being coming back to form lately and he excelled himself here as he was a runaway winner with an excellent forty three points, six ahead of his nearest rival. Jerry Sweetnam (10) got second place with a very respectable thirty-seven points and we then had two players with thirty four and here Joe McArdle (18) won the countback to come third ahead of Ted Morris (17). Wayne Antlitz (14) took the fifth and last place on the podium with thirty three points.
