Monday, Jan. 2, Khao Kheow – Stableford

If Kissy Buchanan had not played, the best score that anyone could muster at Khao Kheow was a very mediocre 32 points, attained by Gary Hogg who was having his first game here in Thailand since July 2011, when coincidentally his last game was also on the A & B nines here at Khao Kheow.  His 32 points earned him second place in Div A and Wes Rado got third with the same score.

Jason Gale followed up his success at Green Valley last Friday with another win here, also with 32 points and he beat John Player on count back, who was also having his first game since returning from Aus.

Thursday runner-up Rosco (left) & winner Jason (2nd right) are congratulated by Noddy (2nd left) & Alex (right). Thursday runner-up Rosco (left) & winner Jason (2nd right) are congratulated by Noddy (2nd left) & Alex (right).

Kissy Buchanan made an amazing 37 points to be five clear of the rest of the field on a day when according to statistics, the course played more than three shots tougher than par.

There was only one ‘2’ today from Wayne Cotterill on the island green (B8) and for the record, 29 people played.

Another regular, Pete Stonebridge, wrapped up Div B with 34 points whilst the Capt’ stole Div A on count back from Paulie O’Mahoney, both with 36.

Thursday, Jan. 5, Eastern Star – Stableford

Our first Thursday golf since November 2009, as we return to five days per week, and very successful it proved to be with 19 Outbackers giving Eastern Star a go, our first visit here since last August.

The weather was slightly overcast and humid with some sunny intervals but it remained dry; the course was in OK condition although the greens were incredibly slow making it very difficult to get the ball to the hole, uphill or downhill – the damn thing just wouldn’t roll!  They were however, (the greens) quite true.

The course was not busy so we were away just ahead of time and Jason Gale made the most of the good pace of play, as he notched up his third win out of four starts but this time at last, he attracted the attention of the handicapper, as the computer calculated the course played 3 shots tougher than par.  Jason scored 36 points ahead of Rosco Towers (34pts), having his first game with the Outback (welcome to you Rosco) and in third was Lee Adelly, who probably won’t really believe it, as he seemed pretty pessimistic at the start.  Well done Lee!

Finally, we’ll say nothing about the scores from the two Jacks at the wrong end of the leader-board and not surprisingly, there were no ‘2’s.

1st Jason Gale (22/Hi21.2) 36pts

2nd Rosco Towers (11) 34pts

3rd Lee Adelly (13/Hi12.8) 32pts

Friday, Jan. 6,Green Valley – Stableford

After a bit of a mix up at the start, the 21 players got underway on time to play at an excellent pace, with no groups grumbling about having to wait, which is unusual for the time of year, particularly here at Green Valley.

In a battle for the first division honours Paul Greenaway edged out scratch player Mark McDonald, but only on count back as both of them shot 36 points; and remember Mark’s was off the stick! (72 gross).

Course member and regular Ed Horrocks ran away with the win in Div B with an excellent 43 points playing off 24, with a handicap index of 23 exactly but he will find himself playing off 20 next week!

Some way back but still with a good round and 21 points on the back nine was Joe Mooneyham on 37, and John Fitzgerald found a bit of form to take third with 33 points.

There were four ‘2’s; two from Mark McDonald on 4th & 9th holes and Gary Hogg & Andy Robertson both had one on the 16th.

Div A (0-13)

1st Paul Greenaway (7/Hi8.3) 36pts

2nd McDonald Mark (0/Hi1.9) 36pts

3rd Paul Bourke (9/Hi9.5) 34pts

Div B (14+)

1st Ed Horrocks (24/Hi23) 43pts

2nd Joe Mooneyham (15/Hi15.1) 37pts

3rd John Fitzgerald (17/Hi17.3) 33pts
