The Billabong Bar Golf Society

Monday, Oct. 2, Phoenix Gold – Stableford

With rain forecast we left the bar for Phoenix Gold golf but fortunately the dark clouds stayed away until we were finished.  Playing the Mountain and Lakes loops with 5 groups playing we were away on time and finished in just on 4 hours.

The course was in magnificent condition, even after all the rain it’s had and 11 out of 20 players didn’t make it to 30 points, so it must have been playing harder than usual.  We had a three-way tie at the top on 35 points and one of our visitors, Jun, took the subsequent count-back ahead of Sasicha in second place and John Anderson in third.

There were three ‘2’s, coming from A.J.Beasley, Steve Bickell and Santi.

Wednesday, Oct. 4, Green Valley – Stableford

We left the bar with rain tumbling down thinking as normal it would stop, unfortunately it didn’t but only a few pulled out and the rest all finished, albeit a bit damp.  The girls went out first and played through some groups who were sheltering from the rain.  With this amount of precipitation winter rules applied.

In the ladies tournament there was a count-back on 33 points for the last two places with Miss Phin taking fourth place and Miss Kran taking third courtesy of 21 points on the back-nine.  Second place went to Miss Lynn with 34 points and taking the top spot was Miss Som with 35.

The men’s tournament it was a different story as the guys from the Phillipines turned the day inside out.  In fifth place was Lloyd Shuttleworth with a modest 33 points, coming fourth was Freddy Starbeck with 35 and taking third was one of our regulars, Sandy Chapo with a great 42 points.  Now here is the surprise, Santi with 48 points came second and his good mate Jun took top spot with a cracking 49.

Despite those amazing scores there were no ‘2’s recorded on the day.

Friday, Oct. 6, Burapha – Stableford

Burapha A & B loops were the challenge today, and in grand condition as usual.  We played winter rules as there were no carts allowed on the fairways.

There was a count-back for fourth place, with Lloyd Shuttleworth taking that spot with 36 points and the calculator was also out to separate second and third places as Arch Armstrong edged Graham Beaumont for the silver, both on 37 points.  Top spot went to Rick Culley with 38 points and he got a 2 as well, along with Sandy Chapo.
