Jomtien Golf with the IPGC

Monday, Jan, 2, Pattana – Stableford

A few cancellations after the New Year festivities and we had two groups out with equal cut at 4-15.5 and 16.4 +.  We were booked in for the A and B nines today and the course looked in fantastic condition.  The greens were the certainly the slickest we played here for a long time.

Both divisions were from the yellow tees and in division 2 Jerry McCarthy recorded the highest score of the day, winning with 37 points.  Paul Young came second on 35 and in third place was Jim Connelly with 31 points.

Paul Bray with 34 points topped division 1, with Dennis Scougall second one point behind and Brian Keating was third, beating Ron Miller and Bob Poole 16/16/14 on the back nine and 12/8 on the back six holes after they all scored 32 points.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Jerry McCarthy, Ron Miller and Keith Wooley (2), and (Div 2) Jim Connelly, Peter Hokke and Tom Novak.

There were an amazing seven ‘2’s today, coming from Manuela Gradl, Jerry McCarthy, Ron Miller and Keith Wooley in the top flight and in division 2 from Jim Connelly, Peter Hokke and Tom Novak.

Wednesday, Jan. 4, Green Valley – Stableford

Our first visit here for quite a while and we were limited to six groups today, but thanks to the management this has been increased to eight on our next visit here later this month.

A slightly higher cut in the divisions with 9-18 and 19+ being set and the in-form Dennis Scougall topped the podium in division 1 with 37 points.  John Hughes rolled in second on 35 points and Andy Crabb was third with 33.

The Welsh lad Curtis Hessler won division 2 with 35 points, three ahead of Paul Young in second with 32, and Fred Temminick beat Howard Stanley 18/14 on the back nine for third after they both came in with 31 points each.

Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) Sid Crawley and Pete Sumner, and (Div 2) Curtis Hessler, John Hughes and Harry Vincenzi (2).

Bert Jumelet recorded the only ‘2’ of the day to scoop the pool in division 2.

Friday, Jan. 6, Eastern Star – Stableford

We had a great turnout today with a field of 42 players to celebrate Chris’s life of the recently departed Chris Voller on one of his favourite courses.  We organized a special two-ball better-ball comp as well as the normal stableford game.

There were three divisions out with the cut set at 7-15, 16-19 and 20+ and the best score of the day came in division 2 from Paul Young with his 38 point winning score.  John Hughes came second in that flight on 36 points and Frank Kelly was third with 34.

Mikael Andersson won division 1 with an even par 36 points, Dave Horne came second one point behind and Brian Green took third on 34.

In division 3 Peter Henshaw’s 36 points was enough to take victory, with Rod Howett second on 33 and the Aussie 5 star chef Mark Armstrong third with 29.

With 42 players out there were remarkably few near pin winners, with only Pete Sumner, Dennis Scougall, Brian Keating and Barry Stirling hitting the nominated greens.  Just as remarkable was the fact that there were no ‘2’s in any division.

In the fun better ball team game today, Dave Horne and Paul Young were the winners with 45 points, Wilf Latham and Howard Stanley came second with 43 and Mikael Andersson and Colin Aspinall took third after beating Ron Miller and Harry Vincenzi, Pete Sumner and Glyn Evans and Paul Bray and Peter Henshaw after they all came in with 41 points.
