Sunday, Oct. 22, Green Valley – Stableford

1st Craig Hitchens (16) 40pts

2nd Andy Featherstone (5) 37pts

3rd Dan Hobbs (23) 35pts

4th Terry Mangan (22) 34pts

5th Paddy Naughton (18) 34pts

We were a bit unfortunate here at Green Valley today to have a five-ball group of farangs in front of us and it was slow progress. I don’t understand why they do that and not split up and speed up the game for everyone on the course.

Some players in our group seem to be making a habit recently of winning.  Today it was Craig Hitchen’s turn and he had an excellent forty points on a course that was playing long because of all the rain over the past few weeks.

Andy Featherstone is another who is certainly on a roll and despite his handicap coming down he went round in four over par gross to score thirty seven points and come second.  Andy also walked with the most money again today as he had the only ‘2’ of the round.

Dan Hobbs took the third place with a respectable thirty five points while Terry Mangan got the fourth on a count-back with thirty four points.  Paddy Naughton had been burning it up on the front-nine with twenty two points but unfortunately the wheels came off on the back-nine where he had only twelve points and had to settle for the fifth and last place on the podium.

Tuesday, Oct. 24, Eastern Star – Stableford

We had our largest field for a long time today, 21 players, and it was decided that there would be 2 divisions with 10 players off the “shorter” yellow tees & 11 off the whites.  After a lot of overnight-early morning rain we decided ‘lift, clean & place’ was the order of the day.

In the white division, first place was decided on a count-back with Jerry Sweetnam (H/cap 9) scoring 34 points (20 on the back) and beating Andy Featherstone (18 on back-nine).  Third place was filled by Mikael Andersson (15) on 31 points and fourth went to Joe McArdle (17) with 30.  There were no 2’s in the white division.

Yellow division saw the scoring improve and getting back to his familiar place in top spot with by far the best score of the day was Russell Gilroy (18) with 39 points.  Second place was taken by Ian Corica (31) on 36 points and third went to Bernie Stafford (16) with 32.

Two people shared the ‘2’s in the yellow division with Peter Henshaw & Dan Hobbs splitting the pool.

Today we had what will be our last game here in Burapha for this year as the Sport Days are now over.  We will miss it as is it definitely our most popular course in the area, mainly because it is such a beautiful layout and also just a short run out there, but we will be back again next year.

I think John Fenwick would have played here every week since we started and he went out in style today as he was the winner with thirty eight points.  Kevin Blake came second with thirty seven and Russell Gilroy, who would also have played here every week, took the third place with thirty four.  We then had three players with thirty three points and here both Joe McArdle and Don Everett lost out on the count back to Andy Featherstone.  We had no ‘2’s today.
