Monday, Feb. 27, Burapha – Stableford

Keeping to the tough C and D course for the second time in a row this month, it was great to see three divisions battle things out.  The course at Burapha does not take any prisoners and you had to be on top of your game today to beat handicap.

C division, with handicap 24 and up, had Rodger Ellis in 3rd place with 32 points, Jimmy Little beating him narrowly on count back on the last six holes for 2nd place, and our winner was Tom Parker with 36 points.

In the B division, with handicaps set at 16-23, David Atkinson scored 35 points only to lose out on count back to Phil Lamb for 2nd place.  Barry Green recorded the highest score of the day with 37 points to clinch first place.

Charles Miller scored 34 points to take 3rd place in the A division while Sel Wegner went one better with 35 for 2nd.  Grant Hall had a solid back nine to beat Sel on a better count back and win the division.

Only two 2’s were recorded, coming from Peter Nixon and Fred Feucs.

Wednesday, March 1, Pattavia – Stableford

Feedback from Pattavia is that the course is in great condition with slick greens and some tricky shots to maneuver.

In the B division, Eddy Beilby had a great front nine to finish with 32 points in 4th place.  Rob Carson beat Eddy on count back for 3rd place and Barry Green played on handicap with a very good 36 points for second spot.  But the star of the day was Roy Barrell who scored a fantastic 42 points to take the honours.

In the A division, with handicaps 0-19, Martin Grimoldby shot 35 points with 17 on the back nine to finish in 4th place, Steve Mann beating Martin on count back to finish in 3rd.  Murray Hart secured 2nd place with 36 points and David Atkinson won the division with a fine 38 point effort.

There were four ‘2’s today.

Friday, March 3, Green Valley – Stableford

Reaching a 4 division tournament size today we saw some strong performances across all flights.  The course difficulty and conditions at Green Valley differ a lot from week to week, with hardly a score beating handicap a few weeks ago when the greens were a bit faster with a few more difficult pin positions and tee boxes.  Today however, it was a scoring paradise with 15 players doing better than handicap.

In the D division, handicaps 27 and up, our Estonian friend Urmas Hubba scored 35 points to finish 4th while Sumalee Wild played a great round to finish on 38 points, only to be beaten on count back by Bruce McAdam with a better back nine for 2nd place.  Andy Makara scored a fantastic 42 points to finish in 1st place.

With C division ranging from 22-26 handicaps, Barry Green scored 36 and lost on count back to Stephen Watkins while Stefan Hoge played exceptional golf to finish on 41.  Mickey Beresford fired a fantastic 42 points at his rivals to finish in top spot in the division.

Fergus Brennan scored a great 38 points to finish 4th in the B division, handicaps 15-21 while John Stafford and Murray Hart both had 39, with Muzza just inching ahead.  The winner of this division was Sunanta (Eng) Cotterell with a fine 40 point total.

The A division was hotly contested.  Glenn McBurney had to settle for 4th place with his 37 points, being beaten by Peter le Noury who had 19 points on the back nine.  Tewin Lamthong played off 11 handicap and scored 39 points to finish 2nd with a remarkable 80 gross, but no one could touch Keith Evans today as he smashed the ball down the fairways and got his short game together as well.  Keith shot 78 gross and finished with a fantastic 44 points!  Who says that only the high handicappers can score big points?

Keith Allen, Eng Cotterell, Bob Lindborg, Peter Nixon, Glenn McBurney, Laurie Reeve, Graham Holmes and Ben Tarfity all recorded birdie ‘2’s.
