Monday, August 24, The Emerald – Stableford

Another extremely hot day here today with hardly any breeze at all and the fairways were found to be very hard throughout the course.  A few of the white tees were moved back to the blues and proved a little tricky, especially the tenth.

It was a quiet week, with a few of our lads over in Hua Hin, but there were still two divisions out with the cut set at 11-14 and 17+.

After six weeks away and in just his second game back with us, Don Head came in with 40 points to win division 2 ahead of Curtis Hessler in second on 36 and Tom Murphy third with 31.

(L to R) Don Head with Miss Nut, Dave Horne and Tom Murphy.(L to R) Don Head with Miss Nut, Dave Horne and Tom Murphy.

Arthur Hancok’s even par 36 points was enough to win division 1 while Ken Leadstone placed second on 33 and in third place was Jerry Sweetnam with 29.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Dave Horne (2), Ken Leadstone and Sandiy Lundie, and (Div 2) Curtis Hessler and Miss Nut (2).

No ‘2’s today so rollovers in both divisions to Khao Kheow on Wednesday.

Wednesday,August 26, Khao Kheow – Stableford

We were allocated the B and C courses today with the cut set at 8-13 and 14+ in division 2.

Playing off a handicap of 15, Paul Butler recorded the best score of the day to win division 2 with 34 points.  Gordon Everingham came in second one point behind.

Sid Crawley was the winner in division 1 with 32 points and Dave Horne took second, again just one point back.

Gill Phillips was the only person on a green on the 3rd hole on the B course and took the only near pin prize today.  Once again there were no ‘2’s in either division.

Friday, August 28, Eastern Star – Stableford

There was heavy rain here overnight but it was the first in over a week so no improvement yet to the approaches to the fairways, which are still rock hard.

We had an almost identical cut as of Wednesday and the best score returned came in division 2 from Komwat Kana, alias Bill Kana, playing off 22 and winning with 41 points.  In second place was Tony Thorne with 38 points and Paul Butler took third with 34.

Jerry Sweetnam topped the division 1 standing with 40 points, two ahead of Ian Speirs in second and Arthur Hancock placed third with 36.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Mikael Andersson, Colin Aspinall, Terry Madsen and Jerry Sweetnam, and (Div 2) Bill Kana, Gil Phillips, Tony Thorne and Iain Walsh.

Jerry Sweetnam birdied the 3rd and Bill Kana the 17th to record the only ‘2’s of the day.
