Today for a change for our Sunday game we were on Silky Oak as Green Valley had a big competition on.  We hadn’t been here in a long time and while in general we found the course in excellent condition unfortunately the same couldn’t be said for the greens, especially on the front nine where they were patchy, bumpy and slow.  It is a shame really as the rest of the course is so good.

As is our usual custom we again today gave our golfers a choice of tees.  This course is fairly short of the white tees but off the yellows it is a real challenge with some long and daunting carries over water, but we had around half play off both tees.

The scoring wasn’t great off either tees but I think the blame lay with the condition of the greens rather than with the golfers.  Off the yellows, Rick Morgan was playing his first ever game with us and came out on top with thirty four points.  Nick Caulfield took second place with thirty one and Anthony Dillon, who has just arrived from Ireland a few days earlier, took the third place with thirty points.

Off the shorter white tees, JJ Harney had his first win with us after scoring thirty six points.  Joe Peters took second spot with thirty one and Pat Carty was third place on twenty six.  We had no ‘2’s in either flight today.

Tuesday, Dec. 6, Treasure Hill – Stableford

2nd Daryl Burkett (12) 34pts

3rd Ted Morris (15) 33pts

2nd Joe McLoughlin (23) 31pts

3rd Anthony Dillon (17) 28pts

Another day’s great golf here on this beautiful course, which was in its usual excellent condition.  Now that the fairways are starting to dry out it was not playing quite as long as before but still just as difficult.

We had a fairly large group out in conjunction with our friends from the PFGS so we had two flights with the cut coming in at fifteen-handicap.  Again the course won out with none of our group managing to play to their handicaps, with Joe McArdle making the best effort and having what was the best score of the day and winning the A Flight with thirty five points.  Daryl Burkett was just one point behind in second whilw Ted Morris, who was celebrating his seventy eighth birthday today, came in third with thirty three points.

In the B Flight, Donal McGuigan was the winner with thirty three points, 2 ahead of Joe McLoughlin in second place and Anthony Dillon had his second visit to the podium this week as he took the third spot with twenty eight.

We had three ‘2’s today, with Joe McLoughlin, Jon Batty and Don Everett having one each.

Thursday, Dec. 8, Bangpra – Stableford

1st Anthony Dillon (17) 38pts

2nd Nick Caulfield (5) 36pts

3rd Russell Gilroy (17) 33pts

4th Lyle Blaw (11) 32pts

Bangpra is now back in excellent condition with its usual lightning fast greens where three or even four putts are normal, especially if you are in the wrong position on the green.

We were getting round at a nice pace until we got to the tenth hole where we found that they had let a Thai five-ball out in front of us and unfortunately they were very slow.  We complained to the manager when we eventually finished and fair play to him he was very apologetic and promised it would never happen again.

The slow play didn’t seem to affect one of our golfers in particular; Anthony Dillon who is playing very good golf on this trip came out the winner with thirty eight points, which is an excellent score on this course, even more so as he had three blanks on his card.

Nick Caulfield was second with thirty six points and Russell Gilroy took the third place with thirty three.  Lyle Blaw, who has just arrived back, took the fourth and last place with thirty two points.

Not surprisingly we had no ‘2’s today.
