PSC golf Bunker Boys @ The Ranch

Monday, August 27, Eastern Star – Stableford

Today we played our first game out of The Ranch bar, following a busy weekend of moving golf equipment from the Bowling Green, and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank Dave, Evelyn and the staff of the Bowling Green for looking after us during our 9 month stay there.

The chosen venue today was Eastern Star and 14 golfers turned out for the inaugural game from The Ranch (we’re not sure yet how many golfers turned up at the Bowling Green!).  The course was generally in good condition, with the greens running somewhat faster than on our previous visit, and with the current promotion, the course offers excellent value for money.

There was no one in front of us and the round was completed in well under 4 hours, leaving ample time for refreshments in nearby Ban Chang before heading back to The Ranch.

Dave Keats had a memorable day, scoring 22 points on the inward nine to beat Gerry Cooney on the count back.

3rd Colin Greig (9) 35pts

Wednesday, August 29, Burapha A & B – Stableford

Sixteen golfers out today for our first visit in quite some time to the Burapha course.  We elected to play from the white tees, which at 6,200 yards is somewhat shorter than our normal distance, and the scores on the day reflected that.

The course was in great condition, with the greens some of the best we have played on in recent weeks.  All in all, everything was set for a high scoring day, and it was no big surprise that three golfers broke the 40 point barrier.

Geoff Hart led the field with a massive 44 points, followed by the fast improving Tony Robbins and Peter Habgood taking third.  Tony’s second place finish brings him into contention for the hotly contested Golfer of the Month title, with five players separated by only two points, and with only one game remaining.

1st Geoff Hart (21) 44pts

2nd Tony Robbins (14) 42pts

3rd Peter Habgood (18) 41pts

Near Pins: Colin Greig, Bill Smith, Geoff Parker and Paul Smith

Friday, August 31, Treasure Hill – Stableford

Today was the big day for the contenders in the Golfer of the Month competition and the four leaders (who could all still win) were put in the same group for what was anticipated to be a close battle.  The weather was overcast and we elected to play off the yellow tees on this testing course, so the stage was set for an epic contest.

In the event, former Bunker champion Gerry Cooney blew the field away with a superb round, scoring 21 points on the outward nine and 24 points on the inward.  To top off the day, Gerry delivered the coup de grace in true champion’s style, finishing the round with a birdie on the difficult 18th hole.  Congratulations Gerry and surely that handicap will be coming down soon!

PJ Redmond made a welcome return to the podium 11 points behind the champion and one point ahead of Reg Smart.

A special mention is due for Raleigh Gosney who injured his arm moving the golf lockers last Saturday and was unable to play golf this week – your absentee golfing mates owe you a beer.

1st Gerry Cooney (16) 45pts

2nd P.J. Redmond (24) 35pts

3rd Reg Smart (29) 34pts

Near Pins:  Colin Greig, Geoff Parker, Tony Robbins and Takeshi.

Note:  The Bunker Boys are a PSC affiliated golf society which now plays out of The Ranch bar on Pattaya 3rd Road, in front of the fire station, and almost opposite the Buffalo Bar.  We play three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, so if you enjoy a fun day out, and a friendly but competitive golf competition why not come and join us.

We meet at The Ranch at 9 a.m. for breakfast and transportation, and new players are always welcome.  Contact Buff on 086 046 5091 or 080 605 5663 for all enquiries.  The society is also in the process of resurrecting our website which you can find at www.bunkersociety.com.
