Shuichi Kodaka at last came back into a bit of form to win by two today, ahead of a count back for second and third which Peter Skinner over Mike Dabanovich with a better 18 to 14.

Murray Edwards then won another count back against Craig Thomas for fourth spot with a better 16 to 13 as Craig’s efforts at tour guiding Rob Adamson around the bright lights started to take its toll on his stamina.

Murray Edwards cleaned out the second division ‘2’s pot with a spectacular drive and putt on the second hole, stroke index 2, where most players are very pleased to record a par while Trevor Schirmer indicated all is not over with the sole one in the first division, unfortunately one event too late for the big fish.

Wednesday, August 16, Pattana A & B – Stableford

CSS 76

1st Darryl Burkett (12) 40pts

2nd Rob Adamson (19) 34pts

3rd Craig Thomas (14) 32pts

4th Phil Cass (18) 32pts

5th Murray Edwards (19) 30pts

Once again the course was the master of all of the players except the winner as the CSS moved out two from the par 74 (the ninth on the B course was played from the par-six tee).

With the rest of the field spread-eagled in his wake it was no surprise to find a few of them asking questions as they found themselves at least six strokes behind.  The answer was in the back-nine which Darryl Burkett finished in level par gross to amass 24 points to add to the 16 that he had garnered from the front side.

Rob Adamson had his best round of the trip, carding a very good 17/18 split after starting out the day with a couple of zeros.  He was followed in by Craig Thomas after he won a count back for third with a better 18 to 16 to leave Phil Cass in fourth place with Murray Edwards another two back in fifth.

There were no 2s in the second division but Darryl Burkett added to his day’s haul with the sole one in the first division achieved on the back nine of course on the 159-yard 12th.

Friday, August 18, Eastern Star – Stableford

CSS 74

1st Darryl Burkett (12) 35pts

2nd Mike Dabanovich (12) 33pts

3rd Murray Edwards (19) 32pts

4th Craig Thomas (14) 32pts

5th Shuichi Kodaka (2) 26pts

6th Phil Cass (18) 26pts

Another long course which appeared to be playing even longer than its reputed 6,575 yards from the white tees, with very little run in the fairways.  It was no surprise the find that the podium was almost filled exclusively with the long hitters in the group.

Once again Darryl Burkett was found to be at the l top of the pile although with a slightly inferior return to his previous win after he slipped in a couple of zero-pointers halfway through the back-nine but quickly recovered to get back to the top step.

Mike Dabanovich ran him closest but a very weak starting nine in which he totaled just 13 points did his chances in for the day and he had to settle for a clear second place.

Murray Edwards then won a count back for third with a better 16 to 11 to leave Craig Thomas in fourth after the latter had looked every inch a winner following an opening half of 21 points.

Shuichi Kodaka then won a count back over Phil Cass for fifth, carding a better 17 to 16 result.

With the course playing as hard as it was and the placements of the pins on the par 3s it was no surprise to find there were no 2s in either of the divisions.
