Phoenix Tuesday/Friday Golf Group

With a few players returning to ‘fun city’ and the weather cooling a little, we had a better turn-out today (Friday 11th May) than of late.  I say the weather turning cooler.  Today it turned decidedly hot again.

Some good scoring today and yours truly might have been forgiven for thinking that 38 points would have been good enough to claim first prize, but that sly old Cheshire grin man Patrick Browne quietly slipped his card onto the table which showed a superb 40 points.  This after already being cut strokes the week before.  As we all know these things go in phases and I am quite sure Patrick’s bubble will burst soon.

So it meant demotion to second place for myself and I am also sure that I will be cut as well after the handicap revision at the PSC headquarters.

Onto Tuesday 15th May and the weather was once again quite hot and unforgiving.  Most players were thankful to get off the Mountain and Lake course, which incidentally are both starting to get quite good.  The greens are now settling down and although still a little slow they are very true.  Not the same can be said for the first cut fringes around the greens.  They are a total disgrace with many bare sandy patches right up to the next cut of semi rough.  We have implemented a local rule for the time being to allow free relief from such areas.  Happy to report that the fairways are in very good condition.

So it was Bill Hewitt who won the day with 36 points.  In second place was Harvey Trewarn with 33 points and in third place with 31 points was myself, Mike Gerrard.

No near pins were won today as most of the par threes had been lengthened to their maximum, with the tees well back and the flagsticks likewise.

Back at the Relax Bar our hosts afforded us our usual discount first drinks and donated their usual free lucky draw prizes consisting of 1 massage and 1 drink.  The recipients of the lucky draw were Joris Goetschalkx, Kevin Bird & Patrick Browne.

We play every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.  At this time of the year non-Phoenix members can enjoy discounted green fees which are Tuesday’s 800 Baht and Friday’s 900 Baht.  For more information regarding the golf and sea fishing call me on 087 091 7565.
