Sunday, March 18, Khao Yai C.C. – Day 1
Following a leisurely drive up to Pak Chong, we arrived at a deserted Khao Yai Country Club with five groups of four and teed off in bright sunshine.
Fourth spot today went to Sasicha Duankham (20) with 37 points, third to Lloyd Shuttleworth (4) with 38, second to Graham Beaumont (15) with 39 and in first place was Paul O’Mahony (19) with 40 points. Paul’s points total included a birdie five-pointer on the par 5 stroke index one hole (the 5th) and, obviously, he never looked back.
Monday, March 19, Rancho Charnvee – Day 2
The second day of the Khao Yai tour was played at Rancho Charnvee in superb golfing conditions. This course is a must to play if you are ever in the area; it is always in pristine condition and the greens were something else.
The scoring on the back-nine was pretty ordinary apart from one or two golfers; Thiery Petrement managed 22 points on his way to fourth spot (on count back) with a total of 32 points. Third went to Sasicha with 33 point and our other lady, Non, took second with 34. Jason Barnett, off his five-handicap, took the top spot with a superb 38 points.
There were four ‘2’s, from Capt Bob, Steve Dodd, Thiery Petrement and Jason Barnett.
Tuesday, March 20, Sir James G.C. – Day 3
We played Sir James Golf Club on the way back home and apart from the bunkers being a bit untidy and the greens a little bumpy it was all good.
It was the ladies day today even though we had to give them a start of a couple of yards. Taking fourth place was Lloyd Shuttleworth with 32 points there was a count back for second place with Jason being nudged aside by On, both with 33 points. Meanwhile Sasicha took the top spot with a steady 35 points.
There were four ‘2’s again today, coming from Jeff North, Jason Barnett, Thiery Petrement and Capt Bob.
Wednesday, March 21, Green Valley – Stableford
Following some heavy showers, the course was still in very good condition although on the back nine each shot was applauded with a clap of thunder with heavy rain falling, thankfully, somewhere else.
Overall scores were good, particularly in the men’s competition. Tony Oakes had a blistering front nine for 23 points but run out of steam settled for 39 points and fourth place. William Macey, who had five 3-pointers on the back-nine, beat Tony on count-back to occupy third place. Peter Le Noury had 40 points for second place but the star of the day was Lloyd Shuttleworth who had a remarkable round of 70 gross, which included 4 birdies, for 42 points and the prospect of a lower handicap next week.
For the ladies, Lynn came fourth with 35 points, two behind Tan who faltered a little on the back nine. Jam on 38 points narrowly missed out on top spot on count-back to Nu who finished on the same score.
There were four ‘2’s today, from Peter Le Noury, Lloyd Shuttleworth, Sandy Chapo and Lynn.
Friday, March 23, Burapha – Stableford
Burapha C and D loops they were in great condition as usual with greens that were holding and true to putt on. It was a glorious day for golf with a nice breeze and some high cloud to keep things a little less hot than normal. We had 5 Aussie golfers playing their last game before going home.
The winner today was Thiery Petrement with 39 points, ahead of Gerard Lambert who edged out Rick Culley for second spot on count-back.
There were only two ‘2’s, coming from Rick Culley and Miss Porn.
