Phoenix Members Golf Society

Friday 7th Sept we decided to have an away day at Emerald Golf Club.  What a mistake that was!  Although both the company and the competition were good, the condition of this course is one of the worst I have ever played on in this country.  I know it is slightly cheaper than most courses but the small saving is not enough to warrant to poor conditions.  Anyway, enough of that and on with the results:

Our winner was Mukesh Thakker with a hard earned 34 points.  The ever consistent Clive Robinson claimed second place with 31 points and your correspondent (Mike Gerrard) managed to scramble 30 points to pip Kristinn Helgason on count back for third place.

Mukesh went on to claim 2 near pins with again the scribe claiming one other.  With one of the par three’s not being hit by anyone this created a lucky draw prize which Granville Swanton won.

Tuesday’s winners with the staff at The Relax Bar. Tuesday’s winners with the staff at The Relax Bar.

So after our little Sunday outing at Phoenix we move onto our main day, Tuesday, 11th September 2012.  High season has come early this year by the fact that we had our full capacity of players to fill six groups.  I had forgotten how much stress this causes me and my score on the first few holes reflected this.  Never mind, we had a lovely match play game within the four-ball.

With so many players we divided the group into two flights and the winners were as follows:

A Flight

1st Richard Baldwin 37pts

2nd Stuart Gordon 36pts

3rd Eamon Murtagh 34pts

B Flight

1st Jim Hallet 36pts

2nd Paul Taylor 36pts

3rd Colin Gregg 36pts

The overall winner for the KPK Food Services voucher was Richard Baldwin while the KPK Food Services cap went to Paul Taylor.

Near pins were claimed by Eamon Murtagh, Gary Strickleton, Mukesh Thakker & Richard Baldwin.

After awarding all the winning players with their respective prizes, the rest of the field went into the lucky draw.  Our hosts The Relax Bar donate these every week along with preferential rates for the first drink on arriving.  The free massage went to Bill Hewitt, the free drink to myself and the two fifty baht prizes went to Joris Goetschalkx and Bob Neylon.

Note:  We play golf every Tuesday, Friday & Sunday at our beloved Phoenix course and welcome guests, however we do limit the numbers to 6 groups (male only) and a maximum of no more than 28 handicap is allowed.  We also run scheduled sea fishing trips.  For more information regarding both of the above please call me (Mike) on 087 091 7565.
