This was our annual escape from Jomtien to avoid the Songkran madness and there were 22 golfers and 9 partners on the week trip here to Khao Yai.  We had three rounds of golf with an individual game each day and an overall winner as well.

A cut of 11-20 and 21+ was made for the first day at Rancho Charnvee and Tim Hake recorded the best score, winning division 1 with 38 points.  Bob Poole came second one point behind Tim while Dannie Larsen was third with 35 and Dave Edwards fourth on 34.

Rick Assi won division 2 with 36 points, Tom Novak was second on 34, Joe Kubon third with 33 and Glyn Evans bounced back after a three month layoff to come in fourth with 29 points.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Tim Hake, Sandy Lundie, Bob Poole and Dennis Scougall, and (Div 2) Kari Aarnio, Peter Davies and Tom Novak.

Bob Poole birdied the 17th in division 1 for the only ‘2’ of the day so a rollover in division 2 to Khao Yai on Wednesday.

The presentation after the round was back at Tim and Uan’s house where they hosted a fantastic BBQ for all the golfers and friends, a great evening was had by all but especially by Bryan Rought who celebrated his 75th birthday.

Wednesday, April 18, Khao Yai G.C. – Stableford

Day 2 of the competition and we were playing at one of the most stunning settings for a round of golf in this area, with all holes leading us through the hills and mountains of Khao Yai.

Dannie Larsen with 41 points returned the best score of the day to win division 1.  Sandy Lundie meanwhile beat Bob Poole for second place on a 17/16 back-nine count back after they both came in with 36 points and Tim Hake was fourth with 35.

Andres topped division 2 with 38 points, Tom Novak came second one point behind with Rick Assi third on 35 and Theo Bahrt fourth with 34.

In the nearest the pins today in division 1 with 44 shots off the tee there was only one person on the green, Dave Edwards getting on the 15th for the only winner in division 1.  Alan Bissell. Colin James, Dannie Larsen and Andy Oz were the winners in division 2.

Dave Edwards birdied the 15th for the only ‘2’ of the day.

Friday, April 20, Panorama G.C. – Stableford

It was a tough test of golf here today and some very difficult holes with tight tree lined fairways.  If you hadn’t played here before it was an interesting scenario of which line to take off the tee. Off the red tees for the week, Andres won division 2 with 42 points, Alan Bissell was second on 35, Rick Assi was third on 29 and 15 points behind the winner in fourth place came Tom Novak with 27.

Stuart Thompson’s 36 points won division 1 with Dave Edwards second on 35, Tim Hake third with 33 and Dennis Scougall finished fourth with 30 points.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Dave Edwards, Tim Hake and Bob Poole (2), and (Div 2) Kari Aarnio and Alan Bissell (2).

There were no ‘2’s in division 1 but in division 2 with two rollovers Alan Bissell birdied the 2nd and 11th, and he was a happy chappy!

After three rounds the overall winner was Andres with 107 points, Tim was second on 106, Rick third with 102, Stuart fourth on 100 and in fifth place was Bob Poole on 99.

It was a great week with some lovely courses and we were very lucky with the weather.
