Jomtien Golf with the IPGC

Monday, Nov. 5, Pattana – Stableford

Heavy rain yet again here in Jomtien on the Sunday and as we journeyed up the 331 this morning there were some heavy clouds in the distance but as we arrived they have dispersed and we were in for a good day weather-wise.

For a change we were allocated the A and C nines and there was a sigh of relief from a few regarding not starting on the B course.  There were two divisions out today with the cut at 16 in division 1 and 17 plus in division 2.

Kari Aarnio returned the best score of the day, winning division 2 with 42 points.  Colin James took second four points behind and Colin Phillips was third on 36.

Pattana winners - Wilf Latham and Kari Aarnio. Pattana winners – Wilf Latham and Kari Aarnio.

Wilf Latham was the winner in division 1 with 40 points ahead of Jerry Sweetnam in second on 36 and the Scottish boy Dennis Scougal third with 35.

No ‘2’s today in either division so one rollover in division 1 and three in division 2 to Bangpakong next Monday.

Friday, November 9, Eastern Star – Stableford

A couple of cancellations overnight and we were down to seven four-balls today and there was a warm welcome back to Paul Hartley, Roger de Jongh and Andres and Jef.

Comments after the round today indicated that the greens are still improving gradually each week and the fairways have dried out and the tyre tracks have disappeared.

Frank Kelly won division 1 with 37 points after beating Mikael Andersson on a 21/20 back nine count back while Chuck Anderson came in third with 34.

For no reason whatsoever, there were some very low scores returned in division 2 with 31 points winning it for Walter Weber.  Rod Howett claimed second on 29 points and a new boy in the frame, playing off 20, John Walsh was third with 28.

Near pins went to Chuck Anderson, Billy Fitzgerald, Paul Hartley, Wilf Latham, Frank Kelly, Joe Kubon and Mike Lewis.

Chuck Anderson and Wilf Latham birdied the 17th and Paul Hartley and Mike Missler the 6th to split the ‘2’s pot four ways in division 1 while in division 2 there was a rollover to Eastern Star next Friday.

Finally our thoughts are with Ken Foster in the Bangkok Pattaya hospital and also to his wife Nom.
