After visiting Thailand many times, Italian-Swiss Marco Zanetti’s decision to relocate permanently to Pattaya became easier when he got the opportunity to open a romantic garden-style restaurant in the city’s Swiss Sabai Lake Resort.

Named “Da Marco,” the open-sided building off Sukhumvit Soi 87 was newly rebuilt and radiates elegance and convenience. Plants decorate the venue and candle lamps on the floor create a cozy atmosphere. A large, modern stove sits in the center on one side of the restaurant and adds to the classic Italian style. There’s also an air-conditioned dining room available.

An accomplished chef, Zanetti learned his craft at the Palace Hotel in St. Moritz and worked afterward at numerous five-star venues. Da Marco offers Mediterranean cuisine and traditional Thai dishes created by his assistant Thai cook. Freshness, quality, preparation and presentation are all evident in the 21 European and 18 Thai dishes.

Prices start at 130 baht and top out at 380 baht for lamb chops. Beers run 60 to 190 baht for Weihenstephaner “white beer” and wine by the glass or bottle is available for 90 baht to 1,700 baht.

Da Marco is open Tuesday through Sunday at 5 p.m.
