Perhaps that it was only fitting that hotels took the top two places in the annual Pattaya International Bed Race. Organized by the Rotary Club of Pattaya and Pattaya City Hall, 30 teams paid 5000 THB to enter, with profits going towards Rotary charity projects.

The Mercure Pattaya Hotel rolled down Beach Road from Central Festival Pattaya Beach to Walking Street at the Jan. 25 charity event in 1 minute and 44 seconds to earn the title of fastest bed pushers. The Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort crossed the finish line in two minutes flat for second place, while Sayama Travel finished third 10 seconds later.

Meanwhile, the TFi (Thai-Farang initiative) team, who normally hosts fun events for charity, took part for the first time. However, it was apparent that the bed they used, previously used by Murphy’s Law, was past its use-by date and in true form the bed and the TFi team came last. Sponsored by Global Property, Booze Lounge, Defence International Security Services, Pattaya Bungy Jump, CSP Construction & Buzz In Pattaya, the TFi team raised 32,000 baht on the day and will donate goods of this value to the Father Ray Foundation.
