Thai and American sailors joined forces to build a library for a Rayong school following their joint CARAT exercise.

Vice Adm. Tawatchai Muangkham, commander of the Navy Frigate 2, and U.S. Vice Adm. Kyle Deshon presented the completed building to Baan Klongpai School Principal Bongkot Tornperknin July 23.

Capt. Atorn Charapinno, development chief at the Sattahip Naval Base, said the library project was funded jointly by the Thai and U.S. navies. The library is a concrete structure and covers 90 sq. meters. It includes tiled floors, false ceiling and air conditioners. Sailors put it up in just 23 days.

The library is open to both students and the public.

Students thanked the navies with a traditional dance performance and handmade gifts.
