CHONBURI, Thailand – A Bryde’s whale measuring an estimated 10–12 meters was spotted feeding near the coast of Koh Si Chang on October 5, delighting local residents, tourists and boat crews.

The whale was seen surfacing and opening its mouth to feed on schools of anchovies, occasionally spraying water from its blowhole before diving back beneath the surface.

Video footage recorded by Facebook users Jutarad Chaipakdee and SAKda Yasawut was posted in the Koh Si Chang community group on October 3, capturing the whale feeding near the island.

The rare sightings offered spectators a close look at the whale’s feeding behavior, with many using their mobile phones to capture photographs and videos. Bryde’s whales are protected marine wildlife in Thailand and are found in the Gulf of Thailand. Their appearance in the waters off Koh Si Chang and Sri Racha is considered an indication of a productive marine ecosystem with abundant small fish.
